We love discovering new local gems and we have a new obsession—Mama Bird’s granola! This organic, naturally gluten free, locally produced granola is deliciously healthy. It does not contain any preservatives, dairy, or GMO ingredients, and it is completely unprocessed. How can something so nutritious still make your mouth water?
My sweet tooth is debilitating. Seriously. When I was five years old, I even asked my mom to point out which tooth was my sweet tooth in my mouth. This obsession has made me think I was brought to The Classic City for one reason – to try every restaurant, bakery, and eatery in Athens. You think this would be a simple task to complete in four years, but this small town is packed with some of the best places to eat, making it difficult to cross every place off my list but I’ve got a year and a half left and plan on making the most of it!
The birthplace for some of Athens’ most notable bands, the Georgia Theatre is a unique venue that celebrates what makes Athens, Georgia so great. It has introduced the music industry to some of the most legendary bands, such as the B-52’s and REM. Conveniently located in the heart of Athens, the Georgia Theatre is just a walk away from some of the most unique restaurants, fashionable shops, and quality hotels. [Read more…]
As a third-year student at the University of Georgia, I am beginning to experience major freak-outs at the thought of graduating in a little over twelve months. Having the privilege of living in the amazing city of Athens, Georgia, it is apparent that there is a never-ending list of things to see, places to eat, and memories to be made. The amount of ways you can fill your day is eclectic – from seeing your favorite band play in the intimate setting of The Georgia Theater to playing Frisbee with your friends in Herty Field, there is something to do for every personality in any type of weather.
Each year our friends at Flagpole Magazine crown the favorite joints in Athens. From best lunch place to best plumber, there’s not much these guys don’t cover. Some categories are obvious picks (if you don’t vote The Grit for best vegetarian options then we’re not saying you’re wrong but you’re pretty much wrong). However, others are a bit harder to narrow down. Best local burger? How could we ever pick just one? Best place to watch the Dawgs play? Being forced to pick between Allgood and Magnolia’s seems downright cruel.
We love having members of the Epting family out to The Hill, especially when that family member takes the form of the incredibly talented Whitney Huynh of Tulle & Grace Fine Art Photography. Whitney came out recently for a stylized shoot with local Athens model, Mercedes Bleth, and Forage + Fleur: Organic Floral Design. Thanks to this crew’s exceptionally ethereal touch, the finished product surpassed our wildest dreams. Check out some of our favorites below and be sure to visit Tulle & Grace’s blog for the full post! Thanks so much, Whitney. Come back soon!
One of my favorite holiday memories as a child is making little Christmas crafts. I would get out the neon felt, pom poms, and glitter, lots and lots of glitter, and go to town making gaudy Christmas trees, snow men, Santas, whatever my little heart desired. My mom would dutifully display these treasures around the house for our guests to ooh and awe over. Now when my family unpacks the holiday decorations, we still find glitter remnants from these crafts covering the ornaments. It’s a nice reminder of Christmases past plus an excellent reason to break out the vacuum.
As technological advances continue, the importance of success heightens, and beautiful families grow, the magic of cracking open a new book is often lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The platform for selling books has grown in the past decade. Aside from places like Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com and e-Bay also sell books to readers all over the world. On top of that app stores, such as iTunes, also sell books for the iPad, Kindle, Nook, etc. It is a treasure to find a local bookstore that still exists. But it is also for these reasons that Avid Bookshop is another gem that sets Athens apart as one of the most eclectic southern cities.
I don’t know about you, but before a lot of us here in the office can even entertain the thought of getting our day started, we need a nice warm cup of joe. Whether we brew a cup just before we run out of the door or brew a cup in-house on our Epting Keurig, we all love our coffee. Sometimes when we feel like we’ve planned the ultimate event, it is someone’s birthday and we want to treat them to something nice or we just need an extra special pick-me-up, we’ll grab our coffee elsewhere and 1000 Faces is one of our favorite stops.
